Main Train Station in Belgrade Is to Be Closed

Starting from July 1st, after 134 years, Main train station in Belgrade will be closed. For all the trains that operate on the territory of Serbia and abroad, new start and end stations will be Belgrade Center in Prokop and Topcider. Otherwise, Main train station in Belgrade was built in 1884, same year when first rail in Serbia was constructed, and it connected capital with Nis. From this station first train went to Vienna, via Zemun, and passengers were king Milan, queen Natalia and Aleksandar Obrenovic, crowne prince.

Home Station of Zlatibor’s Gondola Is Finished

The most important construction works on home and end station of Zlatibor’s gondola are finished, yet there is terrain editing to be done as well as connecting it to electrical network. By the end of this year, the whole project should be done. This gondola will be one of the biggest attractions on mountain Zlatibor and the plan is to increase number of tourists to one million, as well as to make them extend duration of their stay. For now there is 320.000 of them. Soon, placing pillars is expected and building of inter-station by the end of 2018.

Precious Metals in the Human Body

There are several precious metals in the human body, including gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. Each of us has up to 0.2 milligrams of gold in our body, and most of it is found in the blood. If there was a method to allow extracting this and other precious metals from the human body, it is estimated that mining would drastically drop, as well as using harmful artificial fertilizers. Unfortunately, scientists have not yet discovered a way to extract them.

Walking Palm Tree

Believe it or not, it does exist! Socratea exorrhiza is the only plant that can walk. This palm tree grows in the rain forest areas of Central and South America. It can be as high as 25 m, while the trunk’s diameter can reach up to 16 m. It can walk thanks to a very complicated root system that actually functions as legs and helps it constantly move towards the sun. During the day, this palm tree can “walk” 2 – 3 cm, which means as much as 20 m yearly.

About Snowflakes and Snow…

The biggest snowflake ever seen, which still holds the top spot in the Guinness World Records book, fell in Montana in 1887 and had 38 cm in diameter! Too much snow can cause a disorder called echolalia, which is completely meaningless repetition of words that the affected person is convinced to have heard. The whitest place in the world is Valdez, Alaska. Every year it averages 828 cm of snowfall. Besides Earth, Mars and Venus also have snowfalls.

World’s First Hologram Theatre

The first theater dedicated to holograms opened on November 11th 2017, in Hollywood, USA, under the name Hologram USA Theater. The first performance at the theater was by Billie Holiday, and a month later three more opened – in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Foxwoods. The performances last up to 40 minutes on average, and the theater is already selling tickets for performances by Whitney Houston and Jackson 5. The plan is to open another 150 hologram theaters by the end of the year across America.

Library with 1.2 Million Books

Who says that going to the library can’t be fun? You should visit the one in China! It looks futuristic, has five floors, 34,000 m2, and 1.2 million books. The library is located just outside of Beijing, China’s capital, and the Dutch company MVRDV and the Tianjin Institute for Urban Planning and Design were in charge of the design. The angles and curves of the building are designed to encourage different uses of space – reading, walking, meetings, and discussions – and together they form a central part, the so-called “eye” of the building.

Desing Taste Center was founded in 2016 by Desing Company, one of the leaders both in the domestic market and in the region in the production of preparations for the food industry. As part of the Premium Food Design Hub activities, Desing is one of the four selected hubs to provide technical and mentoring support to small and medium-sized enterprises in the food industry in order to improve the quality and design of their products and to prepare them for the shelves of some of the retail chains in Serbia, as well as in the HoReCa sector. The activity is supported by the USAID Competitive Economy Project.
