ABOUT DESTINATION

Belgrade is the capital and the largest city of Serbia. The first settlements in the wider Belgrade area date back to prehistoric Vinca, 4,800 years before Christ. Belgrade itself was founded by the Celts in the 3rd century BC before it became a Roman settlement Singidunum. The Slavic name "Beli grad" was first recorded in 878.
During its long and tumultuous history, Belgrade has been conquered by 40 armies, and for 38 times was raised from the ashes.
Belgrade is the capital of Serbia since 1405 and was the capital of the various South Slavic states since 1918 until 2003, and Serbia and Montenegro since 2003 to 2006.
The city lies at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube in central part of Serbia, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula.

Numerous local and international filmy, musical and other cultural events (FEST, BITEF, BEMUS, BELEF, October Salon and the Documentary and Short Film Festival) make Belgrade an important cultural centre.
